Vir Sahu is a Senior Analyst at Accenture, where he provides strategic consulting services for clients across industries. Vir holds a BA in Economics and South Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. In his free time, Vir DJs at premier venues across NYC and seeks out new music to incorporate into his eclectic sets.
Vir is eager to join the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) out of a deep passion for Indian culture and a desire for its visibility in the United States. His cultural interests stem back to his childhood just outside Philadelphia, where Vir was exposed to a wide variety of Indian media including colorful Hindu mythological cartoons, ‘masala’ Bollywood films, classical Bharatanatyam performances, and many others. The effects of this cultural exposure compounded as his parents hosted yearly Diwali parties at their home, to give him and his sister the sense that their heritage and traditions should be honored just as vibrantly as those of their non-Indian friends. Vir’s culturally rich upbringing inspired a commitment to Indian advocacy, leading him in high school to petition his school board to recognize Diwali as a district-wide holiday. In just three months, Vir’s advocacy led the Council Rock School District to become one of the few nationwide to recognize Diwali on its calendar.
Vir furthered his exposure to Indian culture by pursuing a double major in Economics and South Asian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. An average semester’s course load included advanced econometrics and macroeconomic theory in the mornings, followed by discussions on modern South Asian history and Bhakti poetry in the evenings. Vir graduated with honors in the Class of 2023 and moved to New York City to begin his professional career in strategic consulting at Accenture. However, his yearning to both enjoy and promote awareness for Indian culture has not waned. Vir hopes to join IAAC’s Executive Team to elevate its offerings with programming that resonates more deeply with today’s audiences. He is particularly committed to engaging younger Indian-Americans who are increasingly seeking to rediscover their heritage, while also broadening IAAC’s reach to other audiences drawn to India’s growing influence in the global arts.
