JYOTI MENON
Jyoti Menon

Jyoti is a product management, strategy, and development professional with 20 years of experience in delivering next-generation financial services products. Jyoti has developed strategy and led execution for large-scale, global products through her ability to define vision, collaborate across multiple teams, and work through changing environments and priorities.

Jyoti is currently Vice President at Bread Financial, where she leads their mobile app and their digital lending suite. She is responsible for product strategy and delivery of the Bread Financial mobile app as well as the digital lending platform (split pay, installment loans, personal loans).

Prior to Bread, Jyoti was Director and Head of Digital Wallets/eCommerce, Bill Payments, and Funding at Citi. She managed relationships and led strategy for multiple digital wallet partnerships, and owned Citi’s bill payments and consumer-centric funds transfer product and strategy.

Jyoti started her career in digital product management as a member of the Global Corporate Services team at American Express, where she focused on building robust mobile travel and expense solutions for corporate travelers. In prior roles, she launched global marketing tools, redesigned client reporting solutions, and has owned and developed key partnerships.

Jyoti is a Trustee on Barnard College’s Board of Trustees. She also serves on the Board of the Shanti Bhavan school in India that aims to bring children and their families out of poverty through a world-class education.

Jyoti holds a Master’s in International Affairs from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College, Columbia University.

DEEPAK RAJ

After many years spent on Wall Street, Deepak Raj founded The Raj Family Foundation to focus his wide-ranging philanthropic service on issues affecting India and Indian-Americans. He serves as Chairman of the India Philanthropy Alliance and is a former Chairman of Pratham USA. He and his wife Neera established the Deepak and Neera Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies under the auspices of the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University in 2015. He is also co-Founder of Indian-American Impact which aims to harness the potential of the South Asian community in public service.

Deepak held leadership positions at Merrill Lynch over a 24-year career including director of Global Equity Research. He is presently managing director of the New Jersey-based private investment firm Raj Associates with investments in real estate and public and private securities. He has been an elected chairman of the New Jersey State Investment Council since 2019. The Council formulates policies governing the investment of funds and supervises the $80 billion NJ Pension Fund.

A chartered financial analyst, Deepak graduated from IIT Kanpur with a BTech in electrical engineering and earned an MBA from Northeastern University. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kanpur. He and Neera have two grown children and live in Princeton, New Jersey.

Harini Raghavan

Harini Raghavan – Voice/Violin (MD)

Bio: Shifting South Asian classical elements toward pop and jazz sensibilities in a refreshing, organic way, New Jersey based, Chennai born singer, composer and violinist Harini “Rini” Raghavan brings together music of her birthplace in India and her home in the US. Drawing from her formal training in Carnatic(South Indian Classical) music and work at Berklee College of Music, Rini has recorded and performed with Grammy winning artists A.R.Rahman, Bill Whelan, Clay Ross and the renowned Israeli Singer-Songwriter Idan Raichel, headlining prestigious festivals and venues in US, India and Canada, including Boston Symphony Hall, Lincoln Center, Beacon Theatre, Kennedy Center, Yonge-Dundas Square and the United Nations General Assembly. Rini is a part of the 2023 Grammy nominated record ‘Shuruaat’ by the Berklee Indian Ensemble and 2023 Global Music Awards Silver Medalist for her song ‘Magizhini’. Rini also composed the background score, along with Andrew Orkin, for the 2022 Netflix show ‘The Fame Game’ starring the Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit.

Nishant Shekar

Nishant Shekar – Voice

Bio: Nishant’s musicality expands from Indian classical to jazz, blues, pop, RnB and other world styles. He is trained both in Indian Classical and Western contemporary styles, and uses his voice and versatility to perform across borders, in India and the United States. He has worked with Indian composer duo Salim Suleman, Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan, and performed for Usher, Claude Kelly and Sona Jobarteh, in venues like the MGM Music Hall Boston, Agganis Arena, and the Berklee Performance Center. Nishant is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and has worked on multiple collaborations, from the album Police Beyond Borders with Stewart Copeland and Ricky Kej, to the album Blind So What? by Austrian bassist Ciara Moser, For India with Brazilian pianist Joao Bittencourt, and MAMA with Ghanian drummer Shaddy. Nishant’s passion for diving deeper into the ocean of music drives him in his continuous pursuit to learn and better himself as a musician and a human being.

Shereen Cheong – Keys

Bio: Shereen Cheong is a New York-based Malaysian pianist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator who began her musical journey at the age of three. Classically trained, she later studied jazz piano under Malaysian jazz veteran Michael Veerapen and joined the Sparks of Broadway Tourat 16.

A Berklee College of Music graduate, she holds dual degrees in Contemporary Writing & Production and Music Business & Management. Shereen has arranged and conducted for artists like Wang LeeHom, Kaki King, Chelsey Green, and Grammy-winner Pablo Ziegler. She’s also worked with Jamilah Abu Bakar, Amni Musfirah, Carmi Harris, Chan Luxe, and Keithian as a composer and producer.

As a pianist, she has toured with RocNation’s Victory Boyd and performed alongside Jussie Smollett, Gregory Porter, Lauren Daigle, and Kamasi Washington. Her festival appearances include Bonnaroo, ESSENCE, and LEAF, with TV performances on Good Morning America and Late Night with Seth Meyers. She also recorded with Marina on Ancient Dreams Live from the Desert.

Shereen has released several singles, two EPs (2512 and Amygdala), and is working on her debut album. She actively performs with NYC artists like Vivi Hu, Daria Jones, Matt Garrison, and Anthony Muthurajah.

Marco Bolfelli

Marco Bolfelli – Guitar

Bio: Marco Bolfelli is an Italian guitarist based in Brooklyn, NY. His first release Streamflow, featuring ECM recording artist Klaus Gesing on reeds, was reviewed as “a hugely impressive and satisfying affair” by All About Jazz and “a very rewarding listening experience” by Jazz Times. Since graduating from Berklee College of Music and moving to New York in 2017, he has toured and recorded with a diverse number of artists including the instrumental rock band City Of The Sun, bassist and songwriter Chris Morrissey, and grammy-nominated filmmaker and rapper Blitz The Ambassador.

Marcelo Maccagnan

Marcelo Maccagnan – Bass

Bio: Marcelo Maccagnan is a Brazilian-born bassist, composer, and bandleader currently anchored in New York City. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he combines jazz, progressive rock, Brazilian rhythms, and ambient post-rock in a sound that’s both emotive and forward-looking. As a creator, Marcelo has cultivated a vibrant online community—engaging followers with bass performances, creative insights, and behind-the-scenes moments across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. His digital presence not only amplifies his performances but also deepens his connection to a global audience.

Marcelo co-hosts the Spontaneous Jam Session in Brooklyn and has released a live album from that series. His solo catalog spans instrumental jazz albums, progressive projects, and recent vocal-driven post-rock ambient releases—marking a clear evolution in his musical direction.

Marcelo’s collaborative experience is wide-ranging. He’s performed or recorded with artists like RINI, Simona Smirnova, Tigran Hamasyan, Kenny Werner, Peter Eldridge, Hugo Sambone, Gary Chaw, and has played on Broadway with Wicked. His versatility as a bassist helps him fluidly adapt between genres and contexts—whether anchoring ambient soundscapes, improvising in collaborative settings, or leading his own projects.

From the clubs of Brooklyn to the stages of international festivals and Broadway, Marcelo’s musical versatility shines through. Whether anchoring ambient soundscapes, improvising with fellow artists, or crafting his own ambient/progressive albums, he continues to redefine what the bass can express—both live and online.

Anthony Muthurajah

Anthony Muthurajah – Drums

Bio: Anthony Muthurajah is a Bahrain-born Sri Lankan multi-instrumentalist, specializing in the bass guitar. He is known for his versatile playing and international collaborations. He began his musical journey at age 12 as a drummer in his local church band, later exploring guitar and bass. At 17, he immersed himself in Chennai’s gospel music scene before moving to Kuala Lumpur in 2010 to study at the International College of Music, where he switched to bass as his primary instrument.

By 2011, Anthony was active as a session bassist in Malaysia, working with artists such as Ning Baizura, Michael Veerapen, Jayesslee, and Lewis Pragasam. In 2014, he relocated to Doha, Qatar, performing with international artists at Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha, including a residency with Incognito’s Deborah Bond. A year later, he moved to Dubai, performing with acts like Steve Sidwell, The Brand New Heavies, and Layla Kardan, and playing bass for the world premiere of Ihab Darwish’s Waves of My Life.

Alongside performance, Anthony invested in music education through online content. He released two jazz records: Road Not Taken (2019) and Perennial (2021). Since 2022, he has been based in New York City and is endorsed by Marceau Guitars and Trickfish Amplifications.

Indo-American Arts Council Announces 2025 Gala Honorees Jyoti Menon and Deepak Raj in Historic First, October 26, 2025

New York, NY – September 9 – The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) is proud to announce Jyoti Menon, Vice President at Bread Financial and Trustee of Barnard College, and Deepak Raj, Chairman of the India Philanthropy Alliance, as honorees at the 2025 IAAC Gala. In a historic first for the organization, these two trailblazers will be celebrated together for their extraordinary contributions to finance, philanthropy, and the Indian-American community. The gala will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM onwards at the Union League Club in New York City.

The IAAC Gala is the organization’s premier annual fundraiser, bringing together leaders, philanthropists, artists, and community members to celebrate creativity, connection, and cultural excellence. Proceeds directly support IAAC’s year-round programming across film, dance, literature, and music, empowering artists and showcasing the rich diversity of Indian arts and culture.

Honoring Two Inspiring Leaders

Jyoti Menon is a distinguished strategy leader with more than two decades of experience delivering transformative financial services products. She is currently Vice President at Bread Financial, where she oversees product strategy and delivery. Previously, she held senior leadership positions at Citi and American Express. Beyond her professional achievements, Jyoti is a Trustee on Barnard College’s Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of Shanti Bhavan, a school in India dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty through world-class education.

Deepak Raj is a trailblazer in both finance and philanthropy.
